Take advantage of Near Infrared (NIR) light technology and Empower your camera to see more with unprecedented clarity
Near Infrared (NIR) light is not visible to the human eye, however camera sensors are sensitive to this illumination, while visible light (broad spectrum) scatters the energy when trying to penetrate water vapor.
There are several advantages to using NIR light in pulp and paper and nonwovens:
Clarity through the toughest steamy environments. NIR’s longer wavelength allows the light energy to penetrate the water vapor, hit the sheet and reflect back to the camera sensor.
See more without distractions. Reflected NIR energy from metal surfaces is less blinding to the camera sensor than reflected white light.
Make more visible to the camera. Because NIR is monochromatic it strips the color element out of the reflected light energy from the image. A dark brown sheet is seen as a higher contrast sheet to the black and white camera sensor.
Micro-pulsed NIR - In low steam or no steam environments, the short on-time of the NIR LED creates exceptional stop action clarity even with the camera operating at no shutter.
The difference is obvious —
Conventional White LED Vs. ECS NIR LED
providing clarity through steam
Steam and water vapor can render sheet break monitoring and inspection cameras useless on a paper machine. Traditional white LED illumination blinds the camera from capturing clear images of the offending sheet break. Another key benefit to this technology is how our NIR LED can be added to any existing camera system to replace the current lighting solution while keeping the rest of the system intact.
The high intensity and microsecond NIR LED strobing design cuts through the water vapor to illuminate critical parts of the paper machine. The NIR light allows the camera to operate at high stop action shutter while maintaining near zero artificial gain for crisp, bright images.
Wet Line Tracking Capabilities
NIR technology also lends itself well to tracking the wet line along several parallel zones on a scene. Wet line tracking with twin NIR technology allows you to:
Display the live video with individual zone wet line overlays
Display the overall trend line average of all zones
Alarm on individual zone thresholds
Alarm on the trend line average
Archive wet line positions for any alarmed conditions, buffered or break event video
